Each debt gets a page: who it is owed to, what the balance was when you started writing, and a place to log it down over time. Nothing on the page calculates anything. A number goes in, and later a smaller number goes in below it, and the page becomes evidence of what happened rather than a forecast of what will.

Twelve ruled pages sit behind the debt pages for the working-out that will not fit in one line: a call with a lender, a fee that appeared without explanation, a decision about which one to pay first. Twelve more, set apart, are for reading the numbers back once a stretch of entries has built up.

The book gives no financial advice. It assumes no interest rate, because that figure is set by the lender and printed wrong once is printed wrong for the life of the book. It recommends no order for paying anything off. Those are decisions for you and, if the amount warrants it, an adviser who can see the whole picture rather than one ruled page of it.

The film

Page by page

A vertical film from our own bench — this page contacts nobody's server to play it, and downloads nothing until you press play.

A vertical film, 52 seconds: the cover, the ruling page, then 5 reference pages. Synthesised ambient bed, no dialogue — captions in three languages.

Real pages

Five pages from the Debt Payoff Planner laid out as cards: a debt-log page, a section divider, a lined notes page, a reflection page, and a reference table page.
Five pages taken from the print file: a debt-log page, a section divider, a lined notes page, a reflection page, and a page from the reference block. The debt page is a record, not a calculator: a balance you update by hand, so the page shows what happened rather than what an assumption said should happen.
Specification card listing the Debt Payoff Planner contents: 24 debt-log pages, 12 notes pages, 12 reflection pages, 60 pages total, A5 trim, three signatures of twenty.

Questions

What goes on a debt page?

Who the debt is owed to, the balance when you started, and room to log it down as it changes.

How big is it?

A5, 148 x 210 mm, 60 pages, 3.43 mm across the spine.

Is it dated?

No. It starts on whichever page you open first, and a slow month does not leave a dated page unused.

Does it give financial advice?

No. It sets no interest rate, recommends no order for paying debts off, and offers no opinion beyond the space to record your own figures.

What are the reflection pages for?

Reading a stretch of entries back, kept apart from the page where the numbers themselves are written.

The final ends and consummations of actions are nothing at all to a man's nature.
