About us · Bogor
We make books that keep stories.
It began in 2011 with recycled notebooks and CD cases. Since 2013 the focus has been one material — leather — and one job: getting people to write again.

The beginning
From CD cases to leather
It was called hibrcraft then. The product was notebooks made from recycled paper and used CD cases — simple craft, done single-handed.
In 2013 the name became Hibrkraft and the focus narrowed to one material. Leather was not chosen because it is luxurious, but because it is the only cover material that gets better after years of use.
Archive
This is how it used to look
Promotional material, trade stands and commissioned covers from the early years. Deliberately left untidied — the text stuck onto the pictures is part of the period.

2015Hand-painted covers, from our BlackBerry Messenger-era promotional material.
2015The Sweet Yumiko series — illustrated covers, sewn one at a time.
2015The Juno series.
2015An old-map cover with a cloth spine.
2015Our own advertising, long before this page existed.
2016A pop-up stand in a shopping centre. We built the shelving ourselves.
2018Our own marker for the year: Time to settle.

How it is done
Sewn, not glued
Paper is folded into signatures, punched, then sewn one by one with waxed thread. It is slower than gluing, and that is exactly what it costs.
What it buys: the book lies flat on a table without being held open, and the spine does not crack after a few years.

The workshop
Bogor
The workshop is small and was never designed to become a factory. Its capacity is about two thousand books a month, and that is a limit we chose ourselves so that every book can still be checked individually.
Visiting
Before you come
This is a place of work rather than a shop that is always ready for visitors — so let us know on WhatsApp first, so that someone is there to meet you and the books you want to see are already off the shelf.

What we do
Four main things
Custom journals
From one to two thousand, with the material, size and personalisation you specify.
Book repair
From light repair to the conservation of old books, including for institutional collections.
Corporate
Merchandise, gifts and white label for companies. The logo is embossed into the leather, not stuck onto it.

Questions
What we are often asked
- Is all of it really done by hand?
- The cutting, the sewing and the finishing, yes. For embossing and laser work we use machines, because that precision genuinely cannot be matched by hand.
- Do you ship abroad?
- Yes. We have shipped to the UAE, Malaysia, Canada and Germany.
- Who founded it?
- Ibrahim Anwar, who bound his first book here in 2011 and still leads the Hibrkraft Experience sessions today.
- Where do the conservation standards come from?
- Hibrkraft is a member of the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC). Those are the standards we work to for book repair and conservation, including for institutional collections.
- Can I order just one?
- You can. There is no minimum order, and that holds for custom orders too.
