Why it was rebuilt

No longer WordPress

The previous site ran on WordPress with around 47 active plugins. This one was built from a frozen crawl of the old site — 870 pages captured and rendered offline with the network fully blocked — and then reassembled as semi-static PHP. No plugins, and no database in the request path. One page is one small PHP file that includes one static HTML file as its body.

The site’s markup fell from 196.2 MB to 33.7 MB — 83% smaller — and 237 KB of shared includes/ files serve every page.

Type

Palatino Linotype and Lato

Palatino Linotype is the Hibrkraft signature face, leading the display stack, with Palatino, Book Antiqua, Iowan Old Style and Georgia behind it — chosen because their proportions are close. There is no @font-face for it: Palatino ships with both macOS and Windows, so it costs zero bytes and zero network requests.

Lato carries the running text and the interface; PT Serif comes from the old theme. Both are self-hosted now — 16 woff2 files, 157 KB, under the SIL Open Font License, subset by unicode-range per language. Requests to Google Fonts are now zero; there were three plus a preconnect before.

Colour

A colourless interface, and products that carry the colour

The Hibrkraft logo is monochrome — 87.8% #101018 — so the interface is deliberately achromatic. The only accent is the leather tan #8A583C, measured straight off this site’s own product photography and used once per view. The leather and the materials carry the colour; the interface does not.

Text and images

A readable measure, and WebP images

The running text column is held at 45–75 characters a line; some old pages sat at 164 characters before they were corrected. Images are served as WebP with width-suffixed variants (-600x400, -1024x683, and so on), so a browser loads the size that suits the screen rather than downloading the full image on a phone.

Structured data

One graph, not three

The old site emitted three Organization nodes and two WebSite nodes on every page — three different plugins, each describing the same company. Now there is a single JSON-LD @graph per page.

Photography

Our own photographs, partner logos in grey

All product and workshop photography is Hibrkraft’s own, shown in full colour. The only images deliberately rendered in greyscale are third-party partner logos — those are their brand colours, not this site’s to alter.

Hosting

Rumahweb, with Brotli switched on

The site runs on shared hosting at Rumahweb, on Apache and LiteSpeed. Brotli compression is active on the delivery path — measured on one page, 296,406 bytes down to 46,801 bytes.
