What I am doing now
This page answers one question: what this workshop is actually working on, today. Not an archive, not a portfolio. If what follows has gone stale, that is our fault.
On the binding bench
The running work is still both halves: book repair and restoration arriving from all over Indonesia, and custom leather notebooks and planners for individuals and companies alike. The repair queue is usually longer than people expect — a book whose binding has already let go cannot be hurried.
We still take consultations free of charge. Send the photographs first; most questions can be answered without the book having to be shipped at all.
What is being written
The bookbinding glossary keeps growing — 99 terms in the glossary now, each one carrying its English equivalent. The reason is simple: almost nobody has written down the working vocabulary of bookbinding in Indonesian, and a technique with no name is hard to order, hard to teach and hard to invoice for.
The repair page carries a longer dictionary still: 275 terms quoted exactly as they stand from two public-domain glossaries — Zaehnsdorf (1890) and Coutts & Stephen (1911) — so that the definitions are not our own invention.
What is given away
200 paper templates — ruled, dot grid, music, isometric, planners — are there as print-ready PDFs, with nothing to sign up for. It is the part of the site most useful to people who will never buy anything from us, and that is exactly the intention.
Behind the scenes
This site has just been rebuilt: no database in the request path, no plugins, and not one request to a third-party server on first load. We host the fonts ourselves, and the videos only reach out to YouTube once you press play.
