A grant application rarely fails for lack of a good project. It fails because a budget line does not add up to the total on page one, or because a deadline was tracked in three different places and none of them agreed. Twelve project pages hold one proposal each, start to submission, so the version in your head and the version on paper stay the same document.

Six finance pages sit alongside for the budget itself: line items, the total they add to, and the gap between what is asked for and what the work will actually cost. Twenty-three ruled pages follow for the rest of the paperwork: correspondence with a funder, a question from a panel, the redraft nobody scheduled time for.

The book does not write the proposal. It does not know a funder's criteria, and it will not guess at what a panel wants to read this year. What it holds is the version you actually submitted, next to the budget that was supposed to match it.

Does it tell me what a funder is looking for?

No. Criteria differ by funder and by year, and a printed page cannot track either. It holds your own version of the proposal and the budget behind it.
