Forty-eight pages make up the purchase-order log, and they are most of this book on purpose. Every order gets a line: what was ordered, from whom, when it was due, when it actually arrived. A supplier who is late four times out of five is a fact worth having in writing rather than a feeling you carry around.

Eight day-book pages sit at the front, ruled into four columns: vendor, contact, terms, rating. This is where a supplier earns or loses the next order, in writing rather than in memory, so a decision made in January is not forgotten by the time June's order needs placing.

Twelve lined pages hold the rest: a credit note that took three calls to get issued, a delivery sent to the wrong site, a contact who left and was never properly replaced. None of it changes the order log. It only explains it, for whoever reads the log after you.

The film

Page by page

A vertical film, 52 seconds: the cover, the ruling page, then 5 reference pages. Synthesised ambient bed, no dialogue — captions in three languages.

A vertical film from our own bench — this page contacts nobody's server to play it, and downloads nothing until you press play.

Real pages

Five pages from the Vendor and Purchase Planner laid out as cards: a purchase-order log page, a ruled day-book page, a section divider, a lined notes page, and a reference page.
Five pages taken from the print file: a purchase-order log page, a day-book page ruled Vendor, Contact, Terms, Rating, a divider, a lined notes page, and a reference page. The order log is the reason to open this rather than a spreadsheet nobody else can find: it is on the desk, not buried in a shared drive.
