Forty-eight pages make up the job cards, and that is most of the book, because a workshop job is rarely one clean task. A card gets opened when a unit comes in, and it stays open until the fault is fixed and somebody signs it off. Most of what a shop actually does lives on these pages, not on a wall planner.

Eight day-book pages sit alongside the cards, ruled into four columns: job, unit, fault, hours. Where a job card holds the detail of one repair, the day-book gives a flat list across all of them, so a question like how many hours went into starter motors this month has an answer that does not mean reopening forty-eight cards.

Eleven lined pages catch the rest: a part that had to be sourced twice, a customer who changed the fault description halfway through, a tool that needs replacing before the next job needs it. A closed job card is not the end of the story. It is usually just the end of that particular one.

The film

Page by page

A vertical film from our own bench — this page contacts nobody's server to play it, and downloads nothing until you press play.

A vertical film, 52 seconds: the cover, the ruling page, then 5 reference pages. Synthesised ambient bed, no dialogue — captions in three languages.

Real pages

Five pages from the Workshop Job Planner laid out as cards: a job-card page, a ruled day-book page, a section divider, a lined notes page, and a reference page.
Five pages taken from the print file: a job-card page, a day-book page ruled Job, Unit, Fault, Hours, a divider, a lined notes page, and a reference page. The job card is the reason to open this rather than a loose form: one page, opened on arrival, closed on sign-off.
