A blank page invites a panel drawn too large, and then there is nowhere left on the sheet for the line of dialogue or the shot number that has to sit next to it. This page is split before you start: a frame at the top for the drawing, ruled lines below it at a 4.94 millimetre pitch for everything the drawing cannot carry on its own.

Thirty-five lines of that ruling run under each frame, enough for a shot description, a duration, and a line of dialogue without crowding any of them into the margin. One hundred and ten pages are built this way, one frame and its notes per page, so a sequence runs forward through the book in the same order it is meant to play out.

The frame is not big enough for a finished drawing and was never meant to be. It is big enough to remember what happens in it before the next one starts.

The film

Page by page

A vertical film from our own bench — this page contacts nobody's server to play it, and downloads nothing until you press play.

A vertical film, 52 seconds: the cover, the ruling page, then 5 reference pages. Synthesised ambient bed, no dialogue — captions in three languages.

Real pages

Five pages from the Storyboard Notebook shown as cards: a split frame-and-notes page, a section divider, a conversion table, a world map page, and the pen test page.
Five pages rendered straight from the print file: the split frame-and-notes page, a section divider, the conversion tables, the world map page, and the pen test leaf at the back. The ruled lines under each frame are vector geometry, holding their edge at any zoom.
Specification card for the Storyboard Notebook listing 110 split pages, 4.94 mm ruled pitch, 35 rows, 120 pages total, A5 trim.
One hundred and ten split pages: a frame at the top of each one, ruled lines below at 4.94 mm, thirty-five rows of them. Ten pages of reference close the book: an owner page, conversion tables, and emergency numbers checked against two independent sources.
