A Seyes page carries two grids at once: a horizontal rule to write on and a vertical grid crossing it, so a line of handwriting has both a baseline and a column to sit inside. The horizontal rule repeats every 8.01 millimetres, twenty-one rows down the page.
The vertical lines do a job a plain ruled page cannot: they hold a letter's width steady across a whole line as much as its height. That is what the format is actually for, keeping the slant and the spacing of handwriting even while the hand doing it is still learning to manage either.
That is a great deal of paper for one hand still finding a comfortable width to write at, and the format offers no shortcut through it.
