Caregiver's Journal

A daybook for what a doctor said, a page for the rest, and nothing that promises to make caregiving easier.

Eight daybook pages run on four columns: date, who, what was said, what to do. A caregiver sits in more appointments than anyone warns you about going in, and half of what gets said in one is gone by the car park unless it gets written down while it is still fresh.

The larger run of pages is plain ruled space for everything a column cannot hold: a medication that got changed, a question for the next visit, a night that went badly. There is no page anywhere in the book asking how you are coping. That question belongs to a person, not a printed line.

A hard week stays hard whether or not it gets written down anywhere. The book just keeps a plain record of what happened in it.

The film

Page by page

A vertical film from our own bench — this page contacts nobody's server to play it, and downloads nothing until you press play.

A vertical film, 52 seconds: the cover, the ruling page, then 5 reference pages. Synthesised ambient bed, no dialogue — captions in three languages.

Real pages

Five pages from the Caregiver's Journal laid out as cards: a four-column daybook page, a ruled notes page, a divider, the owner page, and a reference page.
Five pages taken from the print file: a daybook page with its four columns, a ruled notes page, a section divider, the front owner page, and a reference page. The daybook is the reason to buy this over a plain notebook: two visits recorded the same way are easier to compare later than two visits described however you happened to phrase them that day.
Detail card listing the Caregiver's Journal contents: a four-column daybook, ruled notes pages, and the reference pages at the back.
A short daybook section ruled into four columns: date, who, what was said, what to do. A longer run of plain ruled pages behind it, for medication changes, questions for the next visit, and the parts of a week a column cannot hold. An owner page and reference tables at the back, the same furniture every book on this shelf carries.

Questions

What are the daybook columns?

Date, who, what was said, what to do.

Is it dated?

No. Start it on whatever day you need it.

Does it ask how I am feeling?

No. There is no page for that. It is built to hold what was said and done, not to manage how you are coping with it.

How is it ruled?

College pitch, close-set lines, for someone writing while holding a phone in the other hand.

Can two people share one?

Nothing stops you, and the daybook's who column is there for exactly that.

Do, you who are about the sick or who visit the sick, try and give them pleasure, remember to tell them what will do so.
