Billable time goes missing in the gaps between appointments. Fifteen minutes on the phone before a hearing, an email answered from a taxi, a call that ran long because the other side would not settle: none of it sits in a calendar, and by the time you are back at your desk it has already become a guess. A guess is not what goes on an invoice.
Every week gets one ruled page, split into five fields: start, stop, client, matter, and whether the entry has been sent to billing. The same five fields, week after week, so a file reopened months later reads the way it did the day you wrote it. Behind the weekly run, lined notes pages catch whatever a five-field row will not hold: a conflict check, a retainer renegotiated mid matter, an instruction that changed twice in one phone call.
It sets no rate and no rounding convention.
