Somebody has to know who is on before the week starts, and that is usually one person working it out on a Friday afternoon for a team that finds out on Monday. Fifty-three roster pages, one to a week, carry that for you: a full year of who covers which shift, laid out far enough ahead that a gap shows up before the shift does.
Behind the weekly roster sits a shorter Leave booked section: From, To, Name, Cover by. Six pages of it, ruled at college pitch, for the request you have to check against the roster before you approve it, not after.
Cover by is where the name of whoever is filling the gap goes. Whose leave gets approved first, and how much notice a swap needs, is an employer's call, not this book's, and a printed book cannot be corrected once it has left the shop.
