This five millimetre grid is not built new for this book. The identical pitch rules a level book elsewhere on this catalogue, a knitting and crochet chart notebook, and a single small gift block cut to nine by fourteen centimetres for one buyer who asked for it by name. Thirty rows fit this page at that spacing.
A grid used for a level survey and a grid used for a stitch count are asking for the same thing: a square that stays square, row after row, so a count or a reading does not drift as the page fills. A finer four millimetre version of the same grid sits beside this one for anyone whose hand runs smaller.
The grid does not know whether it is holding a level run or a crochet pattern. It holds either one exactly the same way.
