Four millimetres is a tight pitch for a square grid, tight enough to hold a dense diagram or a small table without the lines crowding each other into a blur. Thirty-eight rows fit the page at that spacing.
A coarser five millimetre version of the identical grid sits elsewhere on this shelf, better suited to a looser hand or a rougher sketch. Neither pitch is the correct one. It is a question of how small the drawing needs to sit.
Every square on the page is built from vector paths, not a tiled bitmap, so it keeps a sharp edge at any zoom instead of turning into a grey smear on a close look. It does not make the drawing inside the squares any more accurate.
