A count kept only in your head resets the moment you doubt it, and doubt is not rare on the days that matter most. Ask most people managing a recovery what day they are on and watch them recalculate from a date rather than answer straight off.
Each day page holds a running count and whatever you want to write against it: what was hard, what helped, who you talked to. A handful of reflection pages come later in the book, meant for a longer look back once there is enough behind you to look back on.
It is not a program and it is not a sponsor, and it makes no claim about what keeps a recovery going. It is a place to keep a count that does not depend on your memory of it being accurate on a bad day.
