A register asks two different questions, and one grid cannot answer both. Whether a name was present on a given date is a tick, ruled in advance so the marking takes no thought. An absence a parent has to explain needs four things instead: a date, a name, the reason given, and who was notified.
Twelve monthly grids carry that first question: a name down the left, a date across the top, so a term's presence sits in one glance. A tutor running one small group reads it the same way a school office does, only smaller.
A tick says a child was away. It does not say whether anyone rang home, and that is the gap most attendance folders leave open. The reason and notified-by columns exist so the gap gets filled in, not assumed.

Questions
What does the daybook record?
Date, name, the reason given, and who was notified, for any absence that needs more than a tick.
How does the monthly grid work?
A name down the left, a date across the top, marked as attendance is taken.
Is it dated?
Yes. It runs on the 2028 calendar, January to December.
Who is it for?
Teachers, tutors, and anyone running a class who needs proof an absence was followed up as well as noticed.
Can one book cover more than one class?
One grid per month holds one list of names. A second class needs a second book, the way it would need a second register on paper.
