Turn a page of this book the way you would a page ruled for Latin script and the margin lands on the wrong side. The rule here sits on the right, because a hand writing Arabic or Jawi starts there, and a fixed line on the left would be in the way of nothing. The baseline itself repeats every 11.99 millimetres, fourteen to the page, with a second line above it, dashed, marking how far a letter's body is allowed to rise before it runs into the line above.
A how-to-use page opens the book and explains both lines before the first ruled one arrives, so nobody is left guessing which is the rule to write on. One hundred and nine pages of it follow, then a short run of plain lined pages at the back for a word list, a teacher's correction, or anything the guide does not fit.
It gives the hand the same edge to start from, page after page. It does not straighten a letter that leans, and it will not tell you if the proportion is wrong. That part is still the hand's.

Questions
Which way does the ruling run?
Right to left. The margin rule sits on the right-hand side of the page, and the baseline is read the same direction.
How big is it?
A5, 148 x 210 mm, 120 pages, 6.86 mm across the spine.
Is it dated?
No. Start it on whichever lesson you are on.
What is the dashed line above the baseline for?
It marks how far the body of a letter is allowed to rise before it runs into the line above.
Is there a plain section for other notes?
Yes, a short run of lined pages at the back, for a word list or a correction that does not belong on the ruled page.
I have a table here which will shew you the proportion which their weights bear to each other.
