A short list at the front holds what was read and when, nothing more, the kind of record that answers whether a book has already been read faster than scrolling an app.

Prompted pages sit behind it for the books that earned more than a line: what the book argued, what actually stuck a month later, what you'd say about it to someone who asked. Plain notes pages follow for everything a prompt did not think to ask.

It has no star rating and no field for one. What it keeps is closer to what you actually thought, which tends to be worth more than a number a month after the book is back on the shelf.

The film

Page by page

A vertical film, 52 seconds: the cover, the ruling page, then 5 reference pages. Synthesised ambient bed, no dialogue — captions in three languages.

A vertical film from our own bench — this page contacts nobody's server to play it, and downloads nothing until you press play.

Real pages

Five pages from the Reading Journal laid out as cards: a reading log page, a prompted page, a section divider, a lined notes page, and a reference table.
Five pages rendered straight from the print file: the reading log, a prompted page, a section divider, a lined notes page, and the reference table at the back. The prompted page is where the actual thinking happens; the log is just there so you stop asking whether you've already read something.
