Every note page is numbered, but a number is not a subject: a dot grid page carries no title, so a hundred numbered pages are still a hundred pages nobody can search. Four daybook pages sit at the front for exactly that problem: two columns, page and subject, filled in as the dotted pages behind them get used.

One hundred eighteen pages of five millimetre dot grid follow, twenty-eight rows to the page. The dots hold a hand-drawn table as well as they hold a paragraph, which is the appeal of a dot grid over a ruled one: neither job needs an actual printed line.

The index only works if it gets filled in at the time, not reconstructed afterward from memory. Nothing about the daybook page enforces that. It just gives the habit somewhere to go if you keep it.
