Four millimetres, corner to corner: that is the specification, and on a page sold for its ruling it is the only fact worth arguing about. Forty-six rows fit the column at that pitch, run the same distance apart from the first page to the last, with no divider or index interrupting the count.

The dot is drawn, not tiled. A grid built from a repeated bitmap goes soft at the edges the moment somebody zooms into a scan or a print run enlarges it past its own resolution; a grid built from vector lines does not, because there is no fixed resolution to run out of. Most listings for a dotted page stop at the words 'dot grid' and leave the spacing to arrive with the parcel.

This one states it up front: 4.0 millimetres, one hundred thirty-two ruled pages, plain. Nothing on the page explains what the grid is for. That was never this book's job.

The film

Page by page

A vertical film from our own bench — this page contacts nobody's server to play it, and downloads nothing until you press play.

A vertical film, 52 seconds: the cover, the ruling page, then 5 reference pages. Synthesised ambient bed, no dialogue — captions in three languages.

Real pages

Five pages from the Dotted Notebook 4 mm shown as cards: cover, two dotted grid pages, a conversion table, and a pen test page.
Five pages taken from the print file: the cover, two dotted pages from different points in the book, a conversion table page, and the pen test leaf. Every dot on every page sits the same distance from the next, because the file draws points, not a repeated picture of one.
Specification card for the Dotted Notebook 4 mm: pitch 4.0 mm, forty-six rows per page, one hundred forty pages total, A5 trim, vector ruling.
One continuous run of dot ruling at 4.0 millimetres, forty-six rows to the page, with no divider breaking it up. Eight pages of furniture: owner details, unit conversions computed from definitions, and the pen test leaf. A5, one hundred forty pages total.

Questions

What is the exact dot spacing?

4.0 millimetres, measured centre to centre.

How many rows fit a page?

Forty-six, at that pitch.

How big is it?

A5, 148 x 210 mm, 140 pages, 8.01 mm across the spine.

Is the grid printed as a bitmap image?

No. Every dot is a drawn point in the page's own geometry, so it stays sharp at any zoom rather than softening like a tiled scan.

Is it dated?

No.

Nothing must be thought to belong to a man, which doth not belong unto him as he is a man.
