A plaque uses the same die for every recipient. A long service award does not — each person has their own number of years, and that changes how the work is planned, not merely how personal the result feels.

A logo die is cut once and used again and again across every unit — which is why logo-marked goods can be prepared as stock. A service year cannot work the same way, because every person has served a different length of time. What sets the working time is not the number of units but the number of different numbers among them.

One thing makes it lighter: where several people happen to have served the same length of time — three people all at "10 years", say — that marking can be done as a single group. What sets the working time is how many unique numbers are in the list, not how many people.

Beyond the number of years, two further layers of personalisation are often added — and both are also per unit rather than per batch.
- Full name and job title — their professional identity, engraved. A job title risks going out of date; a name does not.
- A foreword page, or a collection of messages from the team — a thank-you from the CEO, or a few pages for colleagues to write on by hand.
- A themed design for retirement — a travel journal, a sketchbook or a recipe book, matched to the recipient’s interests after they retire.

Vegetable-tanned leather darkens where it is handled most and softens at the folds. After five years, two journals from the same batch will look different because two different people have used them.

The last two rows are mistakes that cannot be put right. Marking on leather is permanent: fibre that has been compressed does not spring back. A job title stamped onto a long service gift will be wrong within a few years, and the object will still be there.

Is it complicated if every book has a different name and year?
Not complicated for you. All you need to provide is the list of names and the relevant years; our team groups the identical numbers together and handles the marking for each variation. A digital proof is sent for each variation to confirm accuracy before production.
What happens if a spelling or a number is wrong?
That unit cannot be repaired and has to be made again. This is why the list of names and years is confirmed in writing before any marking begins.
How do you make a retirement gift feel special?
Besides the name and the message, the inside of the journal can be designed around their interests or their plans for retirement — a travel journal with a world map, a recipe book, or a sketchbook. Quiet marking that suits a setting outside the office is discussed on executive gifts.
What is the minimum order?

What if the book is damaged years later?
A sewn book can be taken apart and resewn. That is what its structure allows — see book repair.
