Seven millimetres between rules gives an average hand enough room for a descender to clear the line below it without the two touching. Twenty-six lines fit down the page at that pitch, plain and ruled with nothing else printed between them.
The rule itself is vector geometry, a line held in the file rather than stamped from a bitmap tile, so it keeps a clean edge no matter how far the page gets enlarged on a screen.
It sits a shade wider than the American narrow ruling and a shade tighter than college. Seven millimetres is its own pitch, not a rounding of either one.
