This pitch sits just under the three named American rulings on this shelf. Twenty-five lines fit the page at 6.0 mm, against twenty-four for the 6.35 mm narrow ruling on the same sheet.

A tighter pitch suits small handwriting and dense notes better than it suits a loose, large hand, which runs out of room before the row does. Nothing about the ruling changes what gets written on it. It only sets how much of the page a line of that writing is allowed to take.

Every rule on the page is drawn as vector geometry, not a printed pattern, so it holds a sharp edge at any zoom and adds almost nothing to the file. It does not, on its own, make small handwriting any easier to read back later.

The film

Page by page

A vertical film, 27 seconds: the ruling page and the figures printed on its last leaf. Synthesised ambient bed, no dialogue — captions in three languages.

A vertical film from our own bench — this page contacts nobody's server to play it, and downloads nothing until you press play.
