Draw an isometric box freehand and the two angles that are not vertical tend to drift. Thirty degrees at the top of the page rarely matches thirty degrees at the bottom, and the drift is invisible until the box is finished and leaning.
The lattice sits at a 5.64 mm pitch, thirty rows deep on the page, close enough that a small object can be blocked in without hopping between distant intersections. Diagonals and verticals share the same intersections rather than each being fixed at a separate number. That keeps the two axes aligned instead of one drifting a fraction of a millimetre off the other.
None of this decides what gets drawn. It only means a badly judged angle shows up as a line running off the lattice rather than as a box that looks wrong for reasons nobody can name.
