Rules & Policy

Environmental Policy

The earth is our first supplier. This policy is a reflection of our respect for it, and of how we make sure the work we create leaves no wound on the ground that gave it life.

Our principle: do the work well, do no harm, and see every offcut as an opportunity.

Our Philosophy: Environmentalism Is Not a Gimmick

At Hibrkraft we reject the idea that “environmentally friendly” has to be a marketing gimmick used to justify a higher price. For us, care for the environment is a fundamental part of common sense and of efficiency. Our principle is simple: environmentally friendly should also mean affordable and operationally sensible. This is not about a premium label; it is about making the better choice, every day.

Do No Harm

Our first step is to minimise the negative footprint. That means choosing lower-impact processes, such as giving priority to vegetable-tanned leather, which reduces chemical waste.

Waste is Opportunity

We do not see offcuts as rubbish. Every piece of leather and paper is potential. Waste in our workshop is always upcycled into a new and useful product, so that nothing is thrown away for nothing.

Preserve Nature’s Palette

We respect the material as it is. We do not try to cover up the natural character of leather or paper. Our aim is to bring out the beauty nature has already provided, not to alter it drastically.

What We Actually Do in the Workshop

Conscious Material Choices

We give priority to vegetable-tanned leather, to reduce the chemical impact. Although we cannot yet fully supervise the waste treatment at every tannery, choosing partners who share our environmental outlook is an important first step.

Upcycling as Standard

No offcut of leather or paper in our workshop ever ends up in the bin. They are turned into things of value — bookmarks, keyrings, or other limited-edition items. This is the ‘zero-waste’ principle as we actually practise it.

The Challenges, Honestly

We are honest about our difficulties. At present we are working hard to be able to trace our paper supply chain back to its source. Our next goal is to find packaging that is 100% plastic-free while staying safe for shipping and affordable — in keeping with our principle that care for the environment should not be a luxury.

Common Questions About the Environment

Do all Hibrkraft leather products use vegetable-tanned leather?

We give priority to vegetable-tanned leather and actively encourage our partners to use it. Its availability is sometimes limited, however. We are always transparent about the type of leather used in each product.

What happens to the offcuts left over from production?

100% of our production offcuts, particularly leather and paper, are upcycled. We turn them into new products such as keyrings, bookmarks, or other small accessories. Our principle is that nothing is wasted.

Why does Hibrkraft call ‘eco-friendly’ a gimmick?

We are troubled by the trend of using the ‘eco-friendly’ label to raise prices unreasonably. We believe environmentally sound practice should be an efficient and affordable standard, not a luxury. We try to apply that principle in our own operations, looking for solutions that are good for the earth and also make economic sense.

How can I tell whether the packaging I receive is environmentally friendly?

We try to use recycled or recyclable materials for our packaging. We are still in the process of finding a packaging solution that is 100% plastic-free. Every step forward will be communicated transparently to our customers.

HAVE AN IDEA FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?

We are always open to learning and to collaborating. If you have a suggestion, or an inventive solution for greener practice, we would like to hear it.
