More Than Just a Knot: A Story About Ties and Community

There are things you buy. There are also things you receive from a comrade. This photograph from @haliplandcraft, against a school building full of memories, is an example of the second. This is not a transaction. It is an exchange of respect.

On the surface you see a dark leather journal held in a steady grip. But look closer. Look at the knot in its strap. That is no ordinary knot. It is a tie. And that tie tells you everything.

A Knot of Friendship Between Fellow “Addicts”

Our founder and @haliplandcraft share something more than a love of leatherwork. They are part of the same community: Planner Addict Indonesia. A “tribe” whose people speak a language of paper, ink, stickers and, of course, leather.

When you make something for someone from your own community, the standard is different. There is an understanding without words. There is an expectation of quality born of the same passion. The knot on that journal is not only a fastening. It is a handshake. A mark of respect from one artisan to another, from one ‘addict’ to another.

Born of a Community, Returned to a Community

The school building in the background of this photograph feels exactly right. A community is a school. Somewhere we learn, share and grow together. Hibrkraft would not exist without communities like these. That is where we learned, that is where we were tested, and that is where we feel at home.

Seeing our journal in the hands of a friend from Planner Addict Indonesia is a perfect circle. A product born of passion and obsession, back now in the hands of someone who understands that passion and that obsession deeply.

This is not B2C (Business to Consumer). This is P2P (Peer to Peer). Passionate to Passionate.

I reckon that is the heart of everything we do. Making honest things for people who care about the details. For people who understand why one small knot can mean so much.
