Kit for Conquering the Day: A Case Study

Everyone has their own morning ritual. Some need coffee. Some need music. And some need a war kit. This photograph from Fara Ruby (@fararuby) is a perfect example of the last. A “kit” prepared for conquering the day.

This is not a random pile of things. It is an ecosystem chosen deliberately. A book—”Gerakan Moderen Islam di Indonesia”—is the mission. A sachet of Indocafé is the fuel. Earphones are the shield against distraction. And that blazing red Hibrkraft journal? That is the notebook. The war logbook.

Red for Heavy Thinking

I feel like there is something interesting in the choice of colour. Beside a heavy, serious academic book, Fara did not choose a safe brown or black journal. They chose red. A colour full of passion, of energy and of courage.

As though the journal itself were a statement: “I am ready to argue with what is in this book. I am ready to challenge it, to digest it, and to write it back in my own way.” This journal is not a passive vessel. It is an active sparring partner.

A Tool for Thinking, Not Merely for Writing

This is what people often forget. A good journal or notebook is not merely somewhere to write. It is a tool for thinking. The place where the raw ideas from the book you are reading can be worked through. The place where new connections form. The place where your real understanding is born.

Seeing our journal beside a book by Deliar Noer, among the kit for a productive day, is an honour. Because it means our product is not counted merely as a handsome object. It is counted as an essential working tool.
